Wienerstanger

 

A family recipe that we all love during the holidays
 
 1 stick Butter or Margarine
1/3 cup Sugar
1 egg
1 tsp Lemon Peel, grated
1 cup + 2 Tblspn Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 small jar Jam (usually Strawberry)
1 Icing (Powdered Sugar + Water)
 
 Directions:

Beat butter and sugar well. Add egg, mix. Add lemon peel, mix. Separately mix together flour and baking powder, then mix into dough.

Roll dough into two long strips, thumb thick. Make an indentation with a knife down the middle of each strip. Put jam in the indentation.

Bake at 375 for 12 - 15 minutes. After baking, let cool for 1-2 minutes and add icing along each side of the jam. Cut into bite size pieces.

 
 Notes:  For the icing use a mixture of powdered sugar and water.
